The Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Hon Oreeditse Sola Molebatsi returned on Sunday 17th February, 2013 from Rome, Italy where he attended International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Thirty Sixth Session of the Governing Council meeting from 13-14 February, 2013.  

The Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Hon Oreeditse Sola Molebatsi returned on Sunday 17th February, 2013 from Rome, Italy where he attended International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Thirty Sixth Session of the Governing Council meeting from 13-14 February, 2013.

 

Botswana as a member state participated in the IFAD Governing Council Sessions where among others, items considered were the appointment of the President of IFAD and sharing experiences from the field. While there, the Assistant Minister also presented a brief on the Botswana arable farming scenario of the small holder famers.

 

Hon. Molebatsi also held a sideline meeting with the Director of East and Southern Africa (IFAD) and the Country Program Manager of Botswana, to brief them on progress on the Agricultural Service Support Project (ASSP).

 

ASSP is a five year pilot project co-funded by Government of Botswana and IFAD, targeting small holders experiencing household food and income insecurity, but with the potential to benefit from the improved access to agricultural services. The project started in February 2012.

The Assistant Minister was accompanied by the ASSP Project Manager (Botswana), Ms Ikgopoleng Daisy Thamae.
