The Department of Animal Production comprises three divisions namely Ruminants, non Ruminants and Livestock Services. Ruminants and Non Ruminants are responsible for development of different commodities whilst Livestock Services provide support service to commodities.
RUMINANTS
The division of Ruminants is made up of three Sections including Beef, Dairy and Smallstock (Sheep and Goats). The mandate of this division is to provide extension services as regards to animal husbandry, farm management and disease prevention.
NON RUMINANTS
The division of Non Ruminants comprises of four Sections including Equines (donkeys, horses and mules), Ostriches, Piggery and Poultry and Rabbits. This division is responsible for providing extension services as regards the animal husbandry and management farms.
LIVESTOCK SERVICES
The division of Livestock Services has four Sections namely Hides and Skins Improvement, Range and Fodder production, and Artificial Insemination.
The mandate of this division is to support Ruminants and Non Ruminants with services that promote production, breeding, animal feeds and by products.
