The Department of Art and Culture believes that all citizens should have equal acccess to the improvement off their lives. Therefore the department offers Grants to young people so that they could improve their lives.

Grant Fund Regulations:

Funds will only be allocated to arts and culture projects that fall within the following funding policies:

- Organisations must show that they have the capacity and skills to carry out the project;

- That the project will benefit and involve local people in its running, and/or show evedence of sustainability beyond the grant.

1. Service Description

BNARS receives and responds to general enquiries pertaining to collection (archival materials) in our custody from anyone who intends to do a research. We aim to respond to all postal, telephone or e-mail enquiries within two working days and, in most cases, we will reply on the same day we receive your enquiry. If you intend to make a visit from some distance, you may also find it helpful to ask for a preliminary search to be made of our holdings.

NB: We do not conduct lengthy research for the Public/researchers, but we help the researchers to know the collections we have in relation to his/her research interest.

Botswana National Archives and Records Services Educational Tour Booking Form

1. Service Description

BNARS provides an educational tour service to all schools (primary, secondary and tertiary) as well as other public or private institutions. The Department can accommodate 25 participants at a time otherwise the group will be divided into groups if the number exceeds the threshold. We encourage that bookings should be made at least 2 days prior to the visit. You are required to include the number of the entourage and the proposed date(s) and time of the tour.

Description of Service

With effect from January 2010 the Department of Arts and Culture has been running the Constituency Art Competitions.  This is one of His Excellency the President’s new initiatives.

The objectives of this exercise are

  • Unearth talent particularly amongst the youth
  •  Keep youth meaningfully engaged so as to avoid engaging  in drugs and other toxic substances
  • Promote artistic talent at local level and country wide
  •  Provide leisure activities to youth
  • Combating HIV pandemic
  • Poverty alleviation

 The initiative covers three categories

  • Drama
  • Traditional Song and Dance and
  • Dikhwaere

The competitions start at ward level and the winners then compete at constituency level. Winners at Ward level each receive P3 000 and the second place winner get P1 000 as prize money. At Constituency level, winners get P5 000 whereas second place winners get P3 000 as prize money.  

How to obtain the Service

Registration to participate in the Constituency Art Competitions is done at DAC/Youth offices around the country. Dates for registration are provided on the application forms.

Requirements for application.

  1. Only out of school youth groups are allowed to register for this competition.
  2. No institutional groups are allowed.
  3. Groups registering for these competitions must only register and participate in one category.
  4. Groups must attach copies of ID's for all participating members of the group.  Maximum age for the competition will be 35 years of age; Groups unable to photocopy their ID's must come with originals at the competition.

Service Description    

The e-nnovation Youth Empowerment Programme is a programme where the young people and graduates between 18-29 years will submit feasible business proposals in the Information Communication Technology and Science and Technology Sectors. Interested teams and individuals will be encouraged to submit and present business concepts that are unique yet beneficial to society in the long term.  There will be a substantial focus on creativity, innovation, social responsibility and sustainability of the project.

How do I get the Service

  1. Young person attends orientation on Application Guidelines and Forms
  2. Young person downloads guidelines and forms.
  3. Young person consults with relevant experts and Project Officers to complete application form. This includes collection of quotations, conducting market research
  4. Submission of application forms via email
  5. Appraisal of application form as well as site visit
  6. Adjudication
