Botswana National Sport Council awards Athletes
The Botswana National Sport Council (BNSC) held its 33rd Annual Sports Awards at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC). The theme of this year’s event “History is written, impossible is nothing” was in resonance with the achievements that BNSC in the year 2012, where for the first time in history Botswana scooped a medal at the Olympic Games held in London. It was glitz and glamour as sportsmen and women together with sports sponsors and supporters descended at the GICC to witness the most glamorous event in the sport calendar of the country.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Hon. Shaw Kgathi said that the awards were a result of the hard work and commitment on the part of the athletes as well as sport administrators. He also advised sportsmen and women to desist from using performance enhancing drugs, warning that athletes should desist from using drugs at all costs. Minister Kgathi informed the gathering at the event that he was pleased that the International Committee has enlisted softball, basketball and squash as Olympic sports, a move that was applauded by all present.
