The Deputy Director in the Department of Sport and Recreation, Mr Moreetsi Bogosi has congratulated the BISA team that arrived yesterday from the Czech Republic where they netted 17 out of the 24 medals they had set for themselves.The team had gone to compete in the International School Sport Federation Athletics Cup for the first time. They were also the only team from Africa at these games.
Mr Bogosi said this at a welcome ceremony for the team this morning at the Oasis Motel. He said Government, through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture was committed to ensuring that all Batswana have access to sport and recreation. He said sport can unite communities while they also keep healthy lifestyles. He said they will work together with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development to ensure that the student athletes are moulded into professional athletes who can further make the country proud. Mr Bogosi who is also a member of the Botswana National Sport Council said the BNSC Vision 2028 advocates excellence in Sport and it is through exposure to such competitions that Botswana will continue to excel in sport.
The team's welcome ceremony was graced by sponsors among them AT&T Monnakgotla, Oasis Motel, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture and Ministry of Education and Skills Development. Board members from Botswana National Sports Council and Botswana National Olympic Committee also attended the welcome reception. The 400 metre junior champion, Galefele Moroko excelled in the Czech Republic and was awarded the plague for Athlete with the Most Potential. She has also been promised a scholarship by a university in Brazil. She will also be in the elite group of athletes like Nijel Amos, Amantle Montsho and Oteng Oteng who are catered for by the Botswana National Olympic Committee.
The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture congratulates the athletes and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
