THREE REACH MY STAR FINALS

Motswafere, Sharon and Ayanda are this year's MY STAR finalists who will battle it out for the grand price, where the winner is expected to pocket P100 000 sponsored by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC). The talent identification show which MYSC co-sponsors with Mascom Wireless reached greater heights over the years.

On Friday, Botswana Television auditorium was filled to capacity by My Star die hard fans who had come to witness the selection of the top 3 from the 5 remaining contestants. By the time the top three were announced, some people had already selected their own top three. The top 5 were Amogelang, Tebogo, Motswafere, Ayanda and the ever popular Sharon, who has been called the soul queen of the competition.

Of the 5 contestants, only Ayanda was safe from possible eviction, to which the audince protested that she did not deserve to be in the top three. There were murmurs that the voting system was unfair as it gave people with the financial muscle an advantage even when they were not that good musically. The contestants battled it out before the judges saved two others to join Ayanda in the top three.

The judges, Kgomotso Tshwenyego, Master Dee (Keabetswe Sesinyi) and Dj Sid (Sidney Baitsile) got down to the business of the day. Kgomotso saved Tebogo and Sharon. Sid saved Sharon and Motswafere while the Director of My Star, Master Dee saved the flamboyant Motswafere and Sharon. That meant Motswafere and Sharon were saved to join Ayanda in the top three. They all performed for the public votes but it was disheartening to see people leaving as soon as Ayanda started singing, protesting that she did not deserve the top three. Some could be heard saying Tebogo and Boikanyo should have been in the top three.

The finale will be held this Friday 06th July at Boipuso Hall where the winner will be announced. The Chinese Ambassador to Botswana, H.E Ambassador Liu Huanxing is expected to make a keynote address at the event. it remains to be seen who will emerge a winner and pocket P100 000 and a recording contract plus a possible scholarship to study music professionally.
