The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC) held its Annual Wellness Day on the 18th November 2011 at the UB Stadium. The “Live well, Keep well, Work well,” themed activity started with hectic 2 hours of aerobics session. It was a fun filled activity which everyone seemed to enjoy.

When giving the welcome remarks the Director of Sport and Recreation, Mr Falcon Sedimo, encouraged MYSC staff to take wellness day serious as it provides an opportunity for the promotion of health through sport and exercise as well as encouraging team work.

The day saw a few sporting codes such as orange race, egg and spoon and sack race being added to last year’s programme. The senior ‘youth’ race which is run by Directors and MYSC management proved to be a favourite among the cheering crowds. It was won by Deputy Director BNLS, Ms Gaorere Kgotla and Chief Youth Officer Mr Lesang Leloba in the female and male categories respectively.

The Department of Youth (DOY) dominated female races, winning a total of 5 gold medals, whereas on the other hand Botswana National Library Services men were giving other competitors a hard time. Tug of war trophy was scooped by Corporate Services after a long struggle. BNLS showed other Departments how to best show their talent. The talented maestros had the perfect gear and dancing shoes that blew the judges hats off.

Congratulations go to DOY that scooped the overall prize whose team spirit paid off. The defending champions BNLS came 2nd and Corporate Services finished 3rd. The Department of Arts and Culture, Botswana National Archives and Records Services and Department of Sport and Recreation finished 4th, 5th and 6th respectively.
