WOMEN AND GIRLS ENCOURAGED TO PURSUE CAREERS IN ICT

The Ministry of Transport and Communications and its stakeholders commemorated the International Girls in ICT Day on the 13th May 2015 in Ghanzi. The International Girls in ICT Day is an initiative backed by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Resolution 70 (Rev. Busan, 2014) to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider pursuing careers in the growing field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The event was celebrated under the broader theme: “Expand Horizons, Change attitudes” . Representatives from various organizations participated in the event, including  Orange Botswana, Microsoft, Botswana Innovation Hub, University of Botswana and First National Bank, along with attendance by Ghanzi schools’ girls. he programme included a panel discussion with successful women leaders in the ICT sector. The panel shared their own personal success stories, answered different questions raised by the audience, and encouraged the girls to venture into the ICT sector. The celebration also included an exhibition by various ICT Stakeholders.
