Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC)
Safer road users during the President's day holiday

The Department of Road Transport and Safety, MVA Fund and Botswana Police Services have a common mandate to ensure that lives are preserved on our roads.  In order to achieve this ideal, these three stakeholders will mount road blocks on our country’s major roads with the objective of promoting a shared responsibility amongst all road users.  The theme of this year’s President’s Day Holiday is hence “SAFER ROAD USERS” which is pillar number two of the five Pillars of the Decade of Action 2011-2020.

The joint road block operations will start from the 11 of July 2012 till the 18 of July 2012 at the following sites;

·         Gaborone

·         Mahalapye

·         Palapye

·         Serowe

·         Francistown

The road blocks operations will provide an opportunity for the stakeholders to educate the travelling public on issues of tyre safety, drunk driving, excessive speeds, non-wearing of seat belts as well as driving when fatigued.  The Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 aims at reducing casualties by half by 2020, we therefore appeal to all road users to show commitment during the President’s day Holiday by ensuring that they abide by all road regulations to avoid road crashes.

In conclusion, the Department of Road Transport and Safety, MVA Fund and Botswana Police Services would like to take this opportunity to wish the President of The Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Lt. Gen. SeretseKhama Ian Khama a happy President’s Day Holiday and to all members of the public a safe and crash-free holiday.
