PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release
The Minister of Transport and Communications, Honourable Nonofo E. Molefhi leaves for Windhoek, Namibia tomorrow (07 February 2012) to attend the Three Rail Line Pre-feasibility Study - TransKalahari Railway Link Meeting.
During the past years, the Governments of Republic of Botswana and Namibia have been promoting and facilitating the development of the TransKalahari Railway line link.
It was initially envisioned that the project will be implemented on a Built-Operate-Transfer public private partnership model. However, at a previous Botswana-Namibia Joint Technical Committee Meeting, Botswana proposed a change from the Build-Operate-Transfer principle to a separate investment model. Under such a model the Government would be expected to finance the development of the “Below Rail” infrastructure while the private sector would be expected to finance the rolling stock, operations and management etcetera.
In view of the above, Namibian Honourable Minister together with the Honourable Director-General of the Namibian National Planning Commission will hold a consultative session with Honourable Minister Nonofo E. Molefhi to discuss the separate investment model and way forward.
