NOTICE OF INCREASE ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT PASSENGER FARES
PRESS RELEASE: NOTICE OF INCREASE ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT PASSENGER FARES For immediate Release Following approval regarding the cited matter above, the Ministry of Transport and Communications through consultation with other key stakeholders, would like to inform members of the public that with effect from the 1st December 2012, public transport fares will be increased by 6% (percent). This takes cognizant of the recent global fuel increase. Below is the table showing the local fares (taxis and combis): Vehicle Type Current Fares New Fares Shared Taxi (pula per passenger per trip) P 3.90 P 4.10 Special Taxi (pula per trip) P 19.40 P 21.00 Minibus - Local Transport (pula per trip) P 3.30 P 3.50 For the long distance routes, the fares will be calculated based on the 6% increase. This will take into consideration the different nature of the roads plied by each operator, i.e • Bitumen road • Gravel and sandy • Rural Subsidy (gravel road) • Rural subsidy (sandy road) Public transport operators are strictly advised to collect the newly calculated fares for their respective routes at the Department of Road Transport & Safety offices by the 30th November 2012. Furthermore, long distance passengers are advised to demand receipts from bus conductors to ensure that the authorized fares have been charged.
