¢  Deceptive methods, acts or practices

For more information on types of consumer complaints click here.

LODGING A COMPLAINT

There are three basic approaches you can choose. You can either complain in person, by letter or by telephone or you may use a combination of all three.

NOTE:

Always make sure before you start that you are in the right frame of mind. Be calm, be clear and be reasonable. If you are not sure what the law entitles you to, contact Consumer Protection Office for advice.

Before lodging a complaint, always begin by asking yourself:

¢  Is my complaint justified

¢  Have I got my facts right

¢  What are my legal rights

¢  Am I complaining to the right person

¢  Have I exhausted all the channels

¢  What do I want the business to do about my complaint

NOTE:

A consumer complaint should be accompanied by relevant documentation and information. For more information click here.

CONSUMER GROUPS

These are groups which are formed to represent consumers to ensure that their voice is heard. This is done voluntarily as there are no monetary rewards for members. The groups have to raise funds to enable them to carry out their activities. The groups are educated about consumer issues so that they can stand up and demand their rights. By working as a group, consumer groups stand a better chance to succeed where a single consumer fails or is ignored.
