MTI hands over Community Project
The Ministry of Trade and industry handed over a house to a beneficiary in Kopong village on the 5th of October 2012 as part of its social responsibility role to the community. The Ministry handed over a house worth P75 000 to Ipaleng Mogotsi and her family, a disadvantaged member of the community who was identified by a local social worker.
This was in response to the President, Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama housing appeal for the needy. The objective of this appeal is to provide shelter to the needy members of the society. “It is against this background that my Ministry staff members found it fit to identify a needy family and provide it with shelter”, remarked the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dorcus Makgato-Malesu when officially handing over the house.
The Minister believes that there are four fundamental areas that would enable Botswana to attain universal “Social wellbeing for all” by the year 2016. ”These are: Poverty Alleviation, including support systems and housing for the poor members of our communities; Access to Good Quality Health Facilities, including primary and curative services within reasonable travelling distance; Good Quality Sanitation and an Adequate Supply of Safe Water”. She concluded that what the Ministry has done for Mogotsi and her family, is part of “my Ministry’s social responsibility and a response to His Excellency the President’s call on poverty eradication, housing for the poor members of our communities and to be conscious of each other’s social wellbeing in line with our Vision 2016’s pillar of being ‘A Compassionate, Just and Caring Nation’ “.
