General description:
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates, (preferably citizens of the Republic of Botswana) for the above posts at the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Department of Mines tenable at Gaborone. The Department of Mines exists to licence and monitor mining operations ensure their compliance with the environment, health and safety standards and administer related Acts and Regulations. Salary Scale: D4 (P158, 940 - P175, 476) Leave: 30 working days per annum. Benefits: 1. Optional contributory medical aid scheme (Government pays 50% and employee pays 50%) 2. Contributory pension scheme for permanent and pensionable appointments. (Government pays 15% and employee pays 5%) 3. Attraction and retention scarce skill allowance (40% of basic salary, subject to terms and conditions applicable to Government terms of employment)
Job description:
Main Purpose of the job: To monitor mining operations for compliance with mining legislations and approved programmes of Mining and evaluate mining concession applications. Core Areas of responsibilities: 1. Carry out regular inspections of mining operations to monitor their compliance with mining legislation in line with the approved programme of mining, and to review the operations (costs, process efficiencies and other information relied upon when making decisions on new/replacement of equipment). 2. Process returns (production, ore reserves, costs, etc.) data from the mining operations and maintains records. 3. Evaluate mining concession applications and makes recommendations on the same. 4. Undertake mining related technical investigations or research.
Job requirements:
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Mining engineering, Mineral Processing engineering, metallurgical engineering. Experience: A minimum of 4 years experience within the mining or mineral processing environment on areas of mining operations and development and traceable demonstration of scientific and managerial abilities to plan and execute.
