General description:

Applications are invited from suitably qualified citizens for the above position in the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Coal Development Unit, Gaborone.

  

Leave:                             30 working days per annum.

Qualifications:        BSc (Mining Engineering) or any Related Field. MSc (Mining Engineering)

 

Experience:           At least 14 years experience on management of a mega projects would be preferable

 

Main Purpose of the Job:          

  • To ensure that all projects that are intended to facilitate a speedy implementation of the monetization of Botswana’s vast coal resources with particular emphasis on the mining and utilization of coal, not losing sight of the need to preserve and protect the environment.

 

Key Performance Areas:

 

·         Responsible for providing inputs that ensure optimisation of coal utilisation of all projects undertaken to ensure the facilitation of the monetisation  of the country’s coal resources, by among other things, participating in with appointment of 

a.         Consultants in the requisite qualifications.

b.         Identification and introduction of mitigation measures to manage the risk to the environment by monitoring and enforcing environmental management plans related to coal mining.

·         Inputs in the procurement of Firms for the provision of consultancy services i.e. Technical (Engineering and Environmental), Legal and Financial and monitors their performance.  By giving an input in the preparation of Expression of Interest and Request for Proposal and spearheading the short listing and selection processes for the ESIA Consultant, with particular focus on ultimately optimising coal utilisation for all the projects.

(a)       Continual review of project risks and find appropriate mitigating measures, with particular focus on ensuring environmental compliance relating to coal mining.

(b)       Prepares regular reports for the main stakeholders’ coal mining.

(c)       Assists with monitoring of various agreements with service providers.

·         Ensures that Firms engaged for the provision of services abide by the laws of the land especially on mining

·         Assists in the Managing of expenditure
