General description:
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates, (preferably citizens of the Republic of Botswana) for the above posts at the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Department of Mines tenable at Gaborone. The Department of Mines exists to licence and monitor mining operations ensure their compliance with the environment, health and safety standards and administer related Acts and Regulations. Salary Scale: D2 (P210, 180 – P232, 056) Leave: 30 working days per annum. Benefits: 1. Optional contributory medical aid scheme (Government pays 50% and employee pays 50%) 2. Contributory pension scheme for permanent and pensionable appointments. (Government pays 15% and employee pays 5%) 3. Attraction and retention scarce skill allowance (40% of basic salary, subject to terms and conditions applicable to Government terms of employment)
Job description:
Main Purpose of the job: To enforce the compliance of occupational health and safety in the exploration and exploitation of mineral resources with the relevant acts and regulations. Core Areas of responsibilities: a) To evaluate and monitor the adequacy of electrical safety systems and compliance with mine occupational health and safety legislations on a regular basis through audits and inspections of the mining industry. b) Monitors mining operations for compliance with mineral legislations during the stages of commissioning, operating, recommencing, abandoning or closure of the operations. c) Investigate accidents and incidents and issuance of instructions to avoid recurrence. d) Ensure proper record keeping in relation to inspections, accident inquiries, statutory returns, appointments, exemptions and approvals granted under Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Act. e) Ensure field date collection though appropriate equipments f) Undertake mining related technical investigations or research.
Job requirements:
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience in the mining sector operations or a regulatory environment and proven record of enforcement and management of occupational health and safety legislation Competencies  Achievement Drive  Team work  Analytical Thinking and Decision Making  Customer Service Delivery  Creativity and Innovation
