Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources (MMEWR)

Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) informs the public that the negotiations between the Corporation and CNEEC (the Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor of the Morupule B Power Station) for the provision of operations and maintenance services for Morupule B Power Station have concluded without agreement. As a result, the Interim Operations & Maintenance Agreement under which CNEEC have been providing operations and maintenance services since July 2013 will come to an end on 31st December 2013.

To this end BPC will with effect from 1st January 2014 engage STEAG Energy Services of Germany as its Operation and Maintenance (O&M) service provider. STEAG has deployed personnel from Germany and its fully-owned subsidiary in India. However, the majority of staff running the plant under the STEAG arrangement will be BPC employees as STEAG will be expected to train citizens to operate and maintain the plant.

It should be recognized that the transition, from CNEEC to STEAG might take time to stabilize hence the possibility for some disruption in the normal electricity supply might be experienced.

The public is informed that BPC is working extremely hard to ensure a seamless transition and sincerely apologizes for any such inconvenience that might occur during this transition.
