The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe is in Cape Town, South Africa for a meeting with the Honourable Barbara Hogan, Minister of Public Enterprises on the Mmamabula Energy Project (MEP).

The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe is in Cape Town, South Africa for a meeting with the Honourable Barbara Hogan, Minister of Public Enterprises on the Mmamabula Energy Project (MEP).

Hon Hogan assumed office in early May 2009 after the South African elections. She is responsible for parastatals and enterprises in which the South African Government has equity interest, including amongst others, Eskom.

During the visit, Ministers Kedikilwe and Hogan will get acquainted to one another as well as appraise one another on issues that are of common interest to the two countries within their respective portfolios. The meeting is expected to achieve the following:

* Re-affirmation by the two countries to their commitment of the project.
* Provide clarity on the Eskom Funding Model, a framework through which the RSA government intends to assist Eskom embrace Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
* Provide clarity on the Funding Model timelines.
* Propose regular consultation to update each other on the progress of MEP.

Minister Kedikilwe is expected back home on the 1st September 2009.
