The Ministers reviewed the current state of the bilateral cooperation in the sector and mandated their Senior Officials to develop a Plan of Action for their activities, and the Inter-Governmental Memorandum of Understanding (IGMOU) so as to guide the engagement between their Ministries and any related documents which should be considered and finalized by end of August 2016. The Officials were also mandated to broaden the scope of the Inter-Governmental Memorandum of Understanding to include the entire energy portfolio. The Ministers also resolved to conduct exploratory visits in order to consolidate the areas of cooperation, especially in exploration, refining, procurement and distribution of petroleum products. They mandated the two National Oil Companies, Sonangol and Botswana Oil Limited (BOL) to identify as well as pursue initiatives related to the stated cooperation areas. The Senior Officials were also encouraged to pursue the possibility of Botswana procuring crude from Angola taking into account the existing international procedures within the petroleum trade sector. In conclusion the parties noted the good spirit under which the discussions were held and resolved to continue with future discussions on the matter and expressed the need to conduct a meeting at a date to be announced to consider and approve the Plan of Action and sign the stated IGMOU mentioned above. The trip also highlighted the historical ties that exist between the two states and they committed to ensuring that the relations are further nurtured in order to benefit their populace.
