Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources (MMEWR)
MMEWR Holds Annual Prize Giving Ceremony
17/10/09
"The committee that organized this event consists of employees from various organs of the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources. On the eve of the tenth anniversary of the same event last year, when Water Utilities Corporation was chairing, we witnessed a complete transition of the event from the modest one it used to be to one that is full of life and glamour. This is the standard we have maintained in order to keep the event very special and important in the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources (MMEWR) calendar." Said Portia Kebeng in her welcome remarks.

Said Portia Kebeng in her welcome remarks.

Ms. Portia Kebeng, Chairperson of the event's organizing committee, was speaking at the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources' eleventh prize giving ceremony held at Boipuso Hall, Fairground on the 25th September 2009. The annual ceremony held around the same month every year is directed at celebrating personal achievements of all the officers under the employ of the Ministry and also to incite others to keep working hard with the aim of raising the Ministry's performance especially in the area of Customer Service.

The awards were categorized into Sports, Botswana Consumer Fair, Ministerial Work Improvement Teams Mini Convention, Public Service Convention (WITS) and Customer Satisfaction Study.

In Sports, Botswana Power Corporation deservedly emerged overall winners after showing unparalleled prowess in most of the games that they participated in. In addition to the overall Trophy, the Corporation also scooped first prizes for both Football and Netball. Still in Sports, the Department of Water Affairs proved to be a handful on the track as they dominated the Sack Race, Ladies and Gents' 200 meters. The Department of Geological Surveys was also red hot as they took no prisoners in Pool, Egg and Spoon race, Orange race and the men's 200 meters race. (EADOM) won both the ladies and men's 400 meters races while Water Utilities Corporation was above competition in Volleyball.

The other awards went to all the teams that took part in the Ministry's Annual Mini Convention, Letsibogo for making it to the top ten at the Public Service Annual Convention and Water Utilities Corporation for obtaining position one at Botswana Consumer Fair in the category of Parastatals. The Department of Mines also received an award for outstanding Customer Service in the Mining licensing area in the Public Service Customer Satisfaction and Staff Perception Surveys that was conducted by the Public Service Reforms Unit (Office of the President). The Public Service Reforms Unit had engaged the Economic and Management Consultants (DCDM E&M). The report rates the Department of Mines at 93% in terms in terms of Customer Satisfaction on services that are specific to Ministries and Departments.
