21st May 2014 for immediate Release To: Media Houses MEDIA RELEASE MINISTER OF MINERALS, ENERGY AND WATER RESOURCES LEAVES FOR USA AND UNITED KINGDOM The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Hon Onkokame Kitso Mokaila leaves for the United States of America (USA) and United Kingdom (UK) from the 25th May to 5th June 2014 on an official visit. In USA, the Hon Minister will visit New York and Las Vegas. While in New York he will visit some diamond companies who have operations in Botswana. He will also have the opportunity to brief Batswana residing the New York on developments in his portfolio ministry. From New York, the Hon Minister will travel to Las Vegas where he will attend the JCK Las Vegas Jewellery Show, the world largest jewellery show and a barometer for the year’s performance of the diamond jewellery industry. While in Las Vegas he will receive the 2014 Global Diamond Industry Achievement Award from the Diamond Empowerment Fund on behalf of His Excellency the President Lt. General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, This award is in recognition of Botswana’s management of its diamond resources and how it has used them to develop itself from a third world country to a middle income one. Hon Mokaila will also make a presentation on Botswana as an emerging diamond centre at the Rapaport Breakfast attended by about 500 USA Jewellery retailers and diamaintaires on the 1st June 2014. From the US, the Hon Minister will, at the invitation of British High Commissioner in Gaborone, stopover in London and attend the United Kingdom Clean Energy finance summit on the 4th June 2014. Before then, he will on 3rd June 2014, meet with the International Energy Agency (IEA) Clean Coal Centre to explore possible areas of collaboration in coal development.
