KANYE AND SURROUNDING AREAS TO GET WATER
KANYE AND SURROUNDING AREAS TO GET WATER
One of the values that the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources (MMEWR) prides itself with is results orientation. This was personified by the Honorable Minister Onkokame Kitso Mokaila recently while commencing the project that will ultimately deliver water to the people of Kanye and surrounding villages. Speaking at the Kanye main kgotla, the Minister announced that this project will connect Kanye village to the North South Carrier (NSC) pipe project that is, from Mmamashia Waterworks plant which is 118 kilometers from Kanye. During the ground breaking ceremony, Hon. Minister informed the project contractors that the project should be delivered within the stipulated period, budget and agreed specifications.
The Minister outlined that the Ministry cannot afford to continue spending billions of money on shoddy and substandard national projects, while the contractor is harvesting billions of money. This project is estimated to be complete within 30 days. Villages that will also benefit from this project are Thamaga and Moshupa. The Ministry sees this as a huge achievement in taking water to the south as it is part of the water master plan for the country. He mentioned that the ministry will also in the future connect Molepolole on the north south water pipe line. On a different note, Hon. Mokaila cautioned his audience that although the Ministry is doing all to quench Batswana, there are still those who do illegal water connections, and that alone defeats endeavors that the government put in place.
