SETTLEMENT OF CIVIL DISPUTES

1.       SERVICE DESCRIPTION

This service is availed to members of the community at village ward (kgotla) level by Headmen of Arbitration (Kgosana yo o letlanyang) for those particular wards. The fundamental principle is to arbitrate between feuding members of the community within particular wards (dikgotla) in order to foster peaceful co-existence. This is accomplished through settling disputes before they escalate into civil customary court cases.

2.      HOW DO I OBTAIN SERVICE?

Whenever there is a dispute over any matter between members of a community at ward (kgotla) level, any party can approach a Headman of Arbitration (Kgosana yo o letlanyang) for that particular ward (kgotla) to arbitrate over the matter so as to bring it to a logical conclusion. The Headman of Arbitration (Kgosana yo o letlanyang) is always accessible as he is based at ward (kgotla) level.

3.      HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE SERVICE?

In order for one to access this particular service, one must approach the Headman of Arbitration who oversees the kgotla where the dispute occurred.

4.      COSTS INVOLVED IN OBTAINING THE SERVICE

There are no costs involved.

5.       WHERE CAN I GET INFORMATION?
