ISSUANCE OF LIVESTOCK SALES PERMIT
1. SERVICE DESCRIPTION
All livestock in Botswana are required by law to be registered and a sales permit be issued for the purpose of identifying if the seller is the owner of the said livestock, to curb incidences of livestock theft, to legitimize the ownership of livestock to the buyer, and to monitor stock movement from one place to another . The sales permit is valid for seven (7) days and the livestock must be slaughtered within these days.
2. HOW DO I OBTAIN SERVICE
Customers must present themselves in person with a certified copy of their national identity card, brand certificate, livestock owner’s ID to the main Kgotla. The owner should bring a witness. They should bring their livestock with them for purpose of identification.
Can I send somebody / representative to conduct the transaction on my behalf
In the event when you are unable to come in person, you may send a representative to obtain this service on your behalf. The representative must bring the following:
- Certified copy of Omang
- Letter authorizing that person to conduct the sale on your behalf
- Representative’s certified copy of Omang
- Brand Certificate
- Witness
3. COST INVOLVED IN OBTAINING SERVICE
- Smallstock = P0.50
- Cattle = P1.00
This service levy is paid to the Council by the buyer.
