APPLICATION FOR OCCUPATION PERMIT

All development in Botswana ‘s  planning areas are required by law (Town and Country Planning Act (Cap 32:09) of 1977. Building Control Act (Cap 65:02) of 1995 and associated Acts) to be approved by the relevant local authority or town and country planning board – before an occupation permit can be issued, inspections must be carried out at different stages of constructions as outlined in the building permit.

 

1.                   HOW DO I OBTAIN SERVICE

 

Customers must submit their applications in person or send their agents to the relevant local authority.  After processing the application the customer will be notified of the outcome in writing within eight weeks.

 

2.      HOW DO I APPLY

Application procedures differ for various development (single family residential, multifamily residential, commercial, industrial , Civic and Community)

 

1.       SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENTIAL

 

Applications must submit to council the following:

 

a)      Proof or plot ownership (Title deed or lease)

b)      4 copies of architectural and engineering drawings drawn to appropriate scale (Building plans, site plan and location

c)      Rates clearance certificate  (Urban areas

d)      Sewer connection permit

e)      Perusal fee

f)       Ground levels (applicable in urban areas)

 

2.      MULTI FAMILY RESIDENTIAL

 

Applicants must first apply for planning permission.

 

To set a

 

a)      Planning permission, submit to council the following

Proof of plot ownership (Title deed or lease)

b)      8 copies of architectural and engineering drawings

c)      Rates clearance certificate

d)      Sewer connection permit (Urban areas)

e)      Perusal fee

f)       Ground levels (Urban areas)

3.      COMMERCIAL

 

Applicants must submit the following to Council;

 

a)      For developments less than 500m3 must submit as per single residential.

b)      For developments above 500m2 must submit as per multifamily residential.

 

4.      INDUSTRIAL

 

a)      For developments less than 1000m2 must submit as per single family residential

b)      For developments above 1000m2 customer must submit as per multifamily residential.

 

5.      CIVIC AND COMMUNITY

 

CAN I TRANSFER MY PERMIT

 

An occupation permit is building specific.

6.      COSTS INVOLVED IN OBTAINING THE SERVICE

Application fee based is based on the total floor area as per the following schedule.

An occupation permit is valid for the habitable life of the building
