Ministry of Local Government (MLG)
The Hand That Giveth

Cancer Association of Botswana (CAB) is a non-governmental organization which was established on a voluntary basis in 1998. It can therefore be said that, it provides supplementary services through the provision of cancer prevention and health promotion programmes

It must also be noted that CAB is non governmental organisation, which is receptive to donations in order for it to provide support and counseling to those affected by cancer.

In true Batho Pele style, the ministry of Local Government and Rural Development felt compelled to offer assistance to this organization. To this end the Cancer Association of Botswana was able to highlight to this ministry their needs and how they can be assisted. As local government staff we understood that cancer does not discriminate according to color, religion or social disposition. Cancer cuts across the board and it can affect any one of us at any given time. Some of us may already be affected or have loved ones that are battling the disease. The only way to fight back is if we stand together, support each other and give courage and hope to those that continue to soldier on every day with this scurge. The 23 November 2012 will definitely go down in history’s books as a special day as it marked the beginning of a relationship between our two organizations i.e. CAB and MLGRD

The handover of toiletry donations to the CAB, was made possible through the contributions of MLGRD staff as a whole. These donations will thus go a long way in making life more comfortable for those living with cancer. To echo the words of Mr Tlamelo Dibotelo as he closed the handover with prayer, “we as the staff at local government and rural area development are a light and we are one with those donations. Wherever those donations go, they will shine our light and hopefully bring light to the recipients.”

As the ministry closest to the people it is such a commendable job for the staff to show their compassion in such a manner. On behalf of Management and the wellness committee I would like to say, rea leboga bagaetsho, le kamoso.
