Sandulela visits Gamajaalela elders

Last week Friday the elders of Gamajaalela convened the village Kgotla to receive their monthly disbursement from a new company called Sandulela Telcom.

Mrs Papadi Evelyn Nguvauva, Commissioner of Social Benefits from the Department of Social protectionthe said they had chosen to go with another company to help the Botswana Post pay the elders as the post was the only one doing it in the past. She also revealed that Sandulela Telecom would be paying disbursements for elders in Lobatse and Southern District. The places they would cover include Mabustane, Moshupa and Goodhope Sub Districts and Kanye Administrative Authority.

For his part, the Director of Business Development and Operations, Mr Percy Moletsane Radikoro shared that their company, Sandulela Telecom is a merge of The Telecom and Sandulela International. He went on to say that when the company was still the Telecom, they did telecommunications services. He said in 2005 when the company began its business; they worked with companies like Mascom, Pep, Botswana Post and Shell. He added that in 2015 they obtained their BIN Number or Bank Identification Number, a number that allows them to issue bank cards. In 2016, they were nominated as the company that would help the Botswana Post to make monthly payments to the elderly.

Mr Moletsane also added that since they were chosen for this task, they have hired youth caretakers to be the ones manning the payment stations in their villages. He said this was done to make the elderly more comfortable around those they know and so that the youth caretakers could identify those who are not present during paydays. He added that they have gone around the villages before this trial to acquaint themselves with the elderly and make them understand the company.

After receiving her allowance, one of the elders said she was happy that their village was the first to try out the new company. She praised them for their swift work also adding that they were happy that at long last, they would not have to travel long distances to get their money. She shared that before Sandulela Telecom came, they had to travel to Goodhope for the money.

Kgosi Phatsimo Mahalelo of Gamajaalela also expressed gratitude at the company and the Department of Social Services for the gesture. He also said this had helped his people as they would now have their salaries in full as opposed to in the past when they spent the little they get on hiring transport to take them to Goodhope.

He also said this had killed two birds with one stone as he also gets to see his people and talk to them instead of just seeing them during Kgotla meetings. He added that some of the elderly people had revealed to him that those they trusted to receive the money on their behalf in Goodhope spent their money and that they had since demoted the young fellows to get the money themselves. He concluded by advising the Sandulela Telecom company people to make sure they come on time in the future so they do not have the elderly waiting around in queues in the sun.
