HON. GABORONE MEETS BOBONONG RESIDENTS

Last week Friday, the Assistant Minister, Hon. Olebile Gaborone had a busy schedule in the Bobirwa capital of Bobonong that saw him officiate at three events in the same day. All this dovetailed with the main event, which is the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Infrastructure Projects.

Before the ceremony Hon. Gaborone addressed a Kgotla meeting. The main purpose of the Kgotla meeting was for the Hon. Assistant Minister to hear and address the concerns of the Bobonong populace with regard to this particular project.

Speaking at the Kgotla meeting Hon. Gaborone stated that the government encourages the project management team to give first preference to Bobonong citizens when hiring labour force for the project. This was due to the issue that at times projects like this do not offer opportunities to the locals, especially in terms of employment opportunities.

He further cautioned that a project such as this has a potential to cause disputes therefore he urged that there should be mutual cooperation between the project team, council and residents of Bobonong.

He said that this cooperation is vital for the project to be a success. Hon. Gaborone also implore the team from the Council to attend to the public’s matters of concern in a satisfactory manner.

The Minister was accompanied by senior Government officials such as Hon. Lesego Raditanka- Chairman of Central District Council, Hon. Ishmael Legwaila- Bobirwa Sub District Chairman, Barbara Ramolefhe- Coordinator of Project Management Office, Modise Segokgo-Acting Director of Technical Services, Mpho Mathe- Deputy Council Secretary, Lwapa Pule- Senior Assistant Council Secretary, Ndiza Molatole- Assistant Council Secretary among others.

Later during the day, he met with the Project Team. During the meeting Hon. Gaborone urged the team to articulate the expectations of the project based on the past experiences and problems. He stated that some of the problems include amongst others; cost overruns, slow project implementation and council’s slow response to complaints.

He further advised the project team to review where they have failed the government before; adding that delivery of projects should display the quality of results expected by the government.

With regard to the involvement of the council staff, Hon. Gaborone said "council staff should always be actively involved in these projects to minimize the complaints resulting from failure to deliver."

He concluded by urging everyone involved to work together amicably to restore the public confidence in the government’s project implementation.
