A cry for developments in Mmadinare and Mogapi

Residents of Mmadinare and Mogapi cry of lack of developments in their villages despite the ongoing ESP projects and other project plans in the country which help develop the different areas in Botswana. This was raised recently at Kgotla meetings held by the Minister of Local Government and Rural development Hon. Slumber Tsogwane in Mmadinare and Mogapi villages.

Speaking at the same meeting, the VDC chairperson for Mmadinare Motshegetsi Tukisi explained that despite Mmadinare being a big village with 6 primary schools, 2 junior schools and a senior school, they still do not have a library which they have long requested for. He explained that even though the schools seem enough, the classrooms are already worn out hence need to be maintained. Besides the library, Mr Tukisi explained that they have long asked for a police station to help reduce crimes in their village but up to this year it has not been delivered. He explained that crime rate has gone up with years as the thieves know that the only nearby police to report to is in Selibe Phikwe and it always takes long for the police to arrive in Mmadinare, hence they do crimes comfortably.

According to Mr Tukisi, this request for a police station, library together with RAC offices, street lights, bus rank, internal roads and sewage system have long been made and were all included in the National Development Pan (NDP 8) but none of them has been done. He raised a concern that even though Mmadinare in under Bobirwa Sub District, all developments seem to be done in Bobonong and Selibe Phikwe forgetting about the other villages under Bobirwa Sub Council, both ESP projects and those under the NDP.

When giving his word, Hon Slumber Tsogwane encouraged the residents of Mmadinare not to lose hope as ESP will be running for three years. He also advised that while waiting for response on RAC offices, since there is a service center that is already available in the village they should at least ask that it be beefed up to avail all the necessary services to them.

Both Mogapi and Mmadinare villages also cried of shortage of health facilities as Mogapi has no clinic but a health post which does not operate 24 hours even though the village has a population of more than 4000 people.

Other issues raised at Mogapi village were those of shortage of employees and staff houses. When giving the welcome remarks the Chief of Mogapi Kgosi Boago Monnaapula explained that he has been made aware that there were two police officers and a nurse who were posted to his village but they could not report for duty since they have no accommodation. He however requested the government or any stakeholders to help with caravans to be used as offices for the police and clinic while still awaiting permanent structures which seem to take longer periods to be done.
