COMMEMORATION OF THE WORLD DAY FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH AT THE WORKPLACE
25 April, 2013 - GABORONE - Botswana will through the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs commemorate the International Health and Safaty day on the 30th of April 2013 at Gaborone Senior Secondary School grounds at 0600 hours.This day is commemorated annually by 153 International Labour Organisations (ILO) member states,including Botswana.The day was set up with the objective of remembering those in the global community who have passed on due to work related injuries and diseases,those who have been injured or fallen ill because of work processes and those who are presently exposed to hazardous conditions in the work environment.
This year's theme is "The Prevention of Occupational Diseases."The theme takes recognition of the fact that the world is changing with advances in technology that have brought new risks that were not there in the past in the workplace.These risks therefore call for new patterns that are up to standard and effective hence the need to sensitise the global community including Botswana.
The Honourable Minister of Labour and Home Affairs,Mr. Edwin Jenamiso Batshu will officiate at the event.
