MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND HOME AFFAIRS HOST THE 16TH NATIONAL WOMEN’S EXPOSITION
The Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs through Gender Affairs Department hosted the 16th Women's Exposition at Ditshupo Hall in Gaborone from 22nd to 28th June 2015. The Exposition which aims to offer women entrepreneurs the opportunity to share skills, ideas and experiences as well as offering national exposure to their businesses is celebrated under the theme “Beijing +20: Women’s Economic Empowerment; Prosperity and Progress for All.
When giving the key note address at the official opening of the event, the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs Hounorable Edwin Jenamiso Batshu said “the theme could not have come at a better time than now as this is a critical period for all governments to establish the progress they have made as the Millenium Development Goals’ period comes to a close”. The theme therefore prompts the Government of Botswana to review progress made towards Women Economic Empowerment since Botswana adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995.
It was highlighted that the Government of Botswana continues to provide financial resources to women’s groups to start income generating activities. This year’s exposition saw the participation of 200 women entrepreneurs.
