Child Labour Day Commemorated
11 June 2010 - The commemoration for the World Day against Child was held in Molepolole at the stadium on the 11th of June 2010 under the theme; ‘Go For The Goal, End Child Labour’. This year’s commemoration had been crafted from the framework of the FIFA World Cup, 2010 in South Africa as a reminder that in support of the event, social ills that can befall children should not be forgotten.
Minister Siele addresses the media
28 April 2010 - When deliberating on the current state of the Ministry, Minister Siele informed the media that the Ministry has been meeting its service standards for a good number of services that it offers. He said that with mediation of trade disputes for all cases that do not have complications to cover before decisions could be made. He highlighted that most cases of labour disputes arise from non-payment of wages, leave days, severance pay notice and unfair termination of service and/or employment. He however admitted that a large number of job seekers still remain unregistered something he said constrains the ministry to provide a national picture on the unemployment situation in Botswana...more
Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs hold "Pitso"
27 April 2010 - The Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs achieved another landmark in service delivery improvement by hosting a one day stakeholder’s forum dubbed ’Pitso’. Held on the 27th April 2010 at Boipuso Hall in collaboration with Botswana Confederation of Commerce Industry and Manpower (BOCCIM), the objective of the workshop was to share ideas and experiences on labour and immigration issues with view to improve service delivery. ICS project kick-started
09 April 2010 - The Department of Immigration and Citizenship launched the Immigration and Citizenship System (ICS) project on the 9th of April 2010 at the Ministry head office in Gaborone. The launch of the ICS which was starred by the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Honourable Peter Letlhogonolo Siele. The adoption of the ICS project, means the Migration and Visa services such as the application for exemption certificates, visa exemptions, permanent residence certificates, residence permits and visa applications will now be electronic...more
New passports in full swing
08 March 2010 - The Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs has on the 8th of March commenced issuing new passports to the general public. This follows its launch to the high office in December last year. The e-passport comprises electronic features that are machine-readable and are embedded in a micro-processor chip. The document has secure features which will prove difficult to easy forgery unlike the old passport. Applicants will pay an application fee of P260.00 to get the new passport. The installation of the e-passport marks a great achievement by Botswana to have successfully produced a document that will see the country complying with the international standards prescribed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and at the same time restoring the integrity of the passport... more
