The Assistant Minister of Finance and Development Planning Honourable Charles Tibone and the US Ambassador to Botswana Hon. Stephen J. Nolan, on Monday 20th September 2010 signed terms of reference for the technical assistance of establishing a Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) in Botswana. In implementing this project, the Ministry has sought technical assistant from the U.S. Treasury Office of Technical Assistance. The duration of this project will be for two years starting from July 2010.
Botswana is a member of the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG) which is a regional grouping of southern and eastern African countries whose core mandate is to fight money laundering and the financing of terrorism in the region.
