Applicants are invited to submit applications to fill a vacant position of Deputy Secretary that exists in the Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security Headquarters.

REQUIRED PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

A talented, proactive, self-driven and visionary leader is sought to lead and direct the operations of this function. 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1.    Advice on the position Botswana should take on bilateral, regional and international Treaties, Conventions and Protocols.

2.    Facilitate the creation and functioning of a National Human Rights Institute.

3.    Oversee implementation of resolutions from Treaties, Conventions and Protocols emanating from bilateral and multilateral fora.

4.    Monitor implementation of resolutions from High Level Consultative Forum for the sector of Law, Governance and Justice.

5.    Coordinate the provision of secretariat services to the Defence Council

6.    Coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of Prisons policies and programmes relating amongst others to custody and rehabilitation, parole, prisoner visitation and prisoner re-integration.

7.    Coordinate preparation and timely submission of reports to different reporting authorities such as United Nations Human Rights bodies, International Criminal Court, African Union etc.

8.    Develop policy position papers such as Cabinet Memoranda, Cabinet Information Notes to get appropriate policy direction and guidance.

9.    Assist the Secretary for Defence, Justice and Security in coordinating policies, strategies, programmes and legislation relating to the Ministry portfolios.

 

QUALIFIED APPLICANT PROFILE

To be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must have at least Degree in Social Sciences, Law, International Relations, Security Studies or equivalent qualification complemented by sixteen (16) years relevant post qualification experience.

 

Applicants must have served at least two years at senior management level in Government or equivalent level in the private sector.

 

 

ADDED ADVANTAGE

Masters Degree in a relevant field and an extensive knowledge of public service structures, rules and regulations.

BENEFITS APPLICABLE TO THE POST

Salary Scale –F2 (P398, 808)

Leave: 30 working days per annum

Medical Aid: Optional Contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50% and employee pays 50%).

A contract of 24 to 36 months, with gratuity at the rate of 25% payable upon expiry of the contract.
