MINISTER AND PS ACCOMPANIES HIS EXCELLENCY LIEUTENANT  GENERAL SERETSE KHAMA IAN KHAMA AS HE MET WITH MEMBERS OF THE BOTSWANA POLICE SERVICE AND SENIOR MANAGEMENT

BOTSWANA POLICE SERVICE HAVE BEEN COMMENDED FOR BEING THE BEST SERVICE PROVIDER AMONG GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS

This was said by the President of the Republic of Botswana,Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama ,who is also the Commander in Chief of all the armed forces  during his address to members of the Botswana Police Service and Senior Management at the SSG Band hall today.

 

For his part,His Excellency ,the President stated that police officers are never given a chance to voice their comments and views in kgotla meetings,his walkabouts  so he deemed it fit to come and interact with them on this day.

President Khama said that when he first resumed duty as President ,he realised that at each and every kgotla meeting that he went to residents decried poor services by the Botswana Police Service members.At that point he then  laid down his road map and shared it with senior management of the Botswana Police Service including the low public rating of services provided by the Police.Today ,the President expressed his delight in the turnaround achieved by the Botswana Police Service.

He noted that the Botswana Police Service has a success rate of having a 15 per cent in targetted offences.On another note he gave Botswana police a homework towards reducing involvement of government vehicles in accidents.

He said regardless of the challenges police officers encounter in line of duty, such as shortage of equipment,resources and manpower,Botswana Police Service has emerged in top position during the ministerial and departmental perfomace reviews.

His Excellency also said that the public is a good indicator as to whether the police are doing their job well or not and expressed his delight in the feedback that he got from the communities as he interacts them at different fora.

Ealier on, while giving his welcome remarks,the Commissioner of Police, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe said that it is a rare opportunity to interact with a head of state.Mr Makgophe said the meeting has gathered Five hundred and fifty(550) police officers covering most of the stations down to the Southern parts of Botswana.He noted that it is evident that the police have displayed a commendable job through the efforts of police officers in crime reduction.
