MINISTER ADDRESSES RAMOTSWA CRIME PREVENTION CONSULTATIVE MEETING

Following rampant and surge in criminal cases in Ramotswa ,the Minister of Defence ,Justice and Security Hon. Dikgakgamatso Ndelu Seretse deemed it fit to consult with the village leadership to come up with strategic tactics through which crime level could be reduced in the area and ensure that Cluster policing initiatives are resuscitated to overcome the situation in that area.

The Minister noted with concern that the statistics showed young people being the ones mostly involved and affected by criminal activities saying crime prevention is multi-dimensional and it should start from family level because if parents fail to raise disciplined children the community is prone to have so many social ills. He stressed that parents should are charged with the responsibility of instilling morality in their children adding that Government alone cannot make it. Minister Seretse said the community leaders’ responsibility is to mobilise members to be up in arms in a war against crime.

‘We cannot manage crime by prosecuting, arresting or detaining criminals only, since the situation calls for a change of mindset, he said’.

However, Kgosi Mosadi stated that schools have a role to play in crime prevention and the church also has to encourage members of the public to participate fully. This Consultative meeting came as a result of the recommendation made during a Kgotla meeting that was held previously at the village on the 2nd September 2013.The meeting brought together district authorities such as Dikgosi, VDC members, Minister’s Fraternal, Farmers’ association.
