MIST Commemorates MYAA

It was a day packed full of events and celebrations at the New Lobatse Stadium on Friday 11th March 2011 as the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology commemorated the Month of Youth Against AIDS under the theme "My Youth, My Health, My Responsibility” in collaboration with Lobatse District.

The event commenced with a march where Honourable Minister Johnnie Swartz together with some other dignitaries joined the Ministry’s Youth and other Youths from Lobatse and surrounding areas.  Dignitaries included representatives from the office of the District Commissioner; office of the Town Mayoress; office of the Area Member of Parliament; various Government Departments in the area and some Ministry officials.

Giving his key note address Hon. Swartz said the theme befitted the event and noted that despite Government’s efforts to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS the Youth are still vulnerable to HIV infection. Hon. Swartz highlighted that this is caused by various reasons like limited knowledge on comprehensive HIV prevention, limited sexual and reproductive health information as well as access to other youth services.

Mr. HIV Positive Living for Lobatse(1st Prince) also graced the event with a motivational speech as he advised his fellow Youths to try and take full responsibility of their lives and to also engage in physical activities like sports as that will distract them from all those negative temptations that  exposed them to HIV/AIDS.

Various clubs, Departments and Support Groups like Tebelelopele, Pledge25 and Department of Public Health were present to help disseminate messages and information on the fight against HIV/AIDS. Youths and dignitaries were kept entertained by Charma Gal of the ‘Ekentolo” fame; DBES Lobatse Depot Choir; DBES Broadhurst Depot Drama Group; Bonang Koo Theatre Group and Lobatse up and coming artist Extraada. The commemoration concluded with a game of football between MIST-HQ and DBES Lobatse Depot which ended in 2 all draw.
