ASSESSMENT OF DAMAGES
1. SERVICE DESCRIPTION
Is the determination of the amount payable as compensation for the injury suffered by the applicant. The award is made after considering surrounding circumstances and the evidence given in support of the claim.
2. HOW DO I OBTAIN THE SERVICE?
After an order for assessment of damages has been made application is made to the Registrar for a date to be assigned for assessment of damages. A notice of set down of the assessment is issued and served on the defendant. Assessment of damages is usually done where the amount claimed is uncertain.
3. HOW DO I APPLY FOR SERVICE?
Application for a date can be made by letter to the Registrar responsible, verbally or telephonically. The application must give the details of the case to allow easy identification of the case.
4. COSTS INVOLVED IN OBTAINING SERVICE
P30 for filing a supporting affidavit for the application for judgment.
