The South East District Council Chairperson, Ms Anne Joubert says Botswana and People’s Republic of China have joined mutual and diplomatic relations for over thirty years and indeed the relations have been beneficial to both parties.

The South East District Council Chairperson, Ms Anne Joubert says Botswana and People’s Republic of China have joined mutual and diplomatic relations for over thirty years and indeed the relations have been beneficial to both parties.

Speaking during the signing of the letter of Intent towards twinning partnership with the Henan Province of People’s Republic of China and South East District Council in Ramotswa today, Ms Joubert said that was a new chapter for strengthening the relationship between their two countries through the establishment of such a partnership.

She also said since we live in the globalization era, it is of paramount importance for people of different nations to network with the aim of improving service delivery and business.

She added that there is also a great degree of cultural exchange and knowledge transfer associated with this character of relationship agreement.

 

She also said that as South East District they have abundant natural resources which need to be turned into finished goods.

Ms Joubert requested the Chinese delegation to come and work with them in the process to transfer skills to the locals in order to facilitate the development of the district.

She mentioned that South East District has a dream to develop and implement a massive project of dry port in an endeavor to create job opportunities and take advantage of the three border posts in the district.

On the Agricultural sector she said the district is predominantly agricultural as it is a home to more than 80%of the country’s milk production, piggery and chicken production sectors.

Finally Ms Joubert added that opportunities such as proximity to Gaborone City would benefit if they build residential houses for rent to curd accommodation shortage, saying the construction of a recreational park and destitute housing poses a challenge to the district due to lack of funds.

For his part the leader of the Chinese delegation Mr. Wang Xunzhi said the letter of   intent is to establish the friendly sister province relations and both sides, Henan Province and South East District share a great deal of similarities in general and strong mutual compliments in terms of economic structure.

He also said  on the basis of the principle of equality and mutual benefit, the two parties shall carry out multi-form exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture, science and technology, tourism, culture, health, education, so as to promote the common prosperity and development of Henan Province and South East District.
