South East District Council
Update on A (H1N1)
05/10/09
INFECTIOUS DISEASE SURVEILLANCE AND RESPONSE
INFLUENZA TYPE A (H1N1)

The district is continuing to closely follow the trend of Influenza pandemic in response to the country’s state of alert. Current focus on surveillance is spread out not only to cover border crossings of Ramotswa and Tlokweng but also increased vigilance within the district’s health care delivery system (Hospital, clinics and health posts).

The district is also targeting different social gatherings to disseminate basic education on the disease and necessary prevention measures against such as the churches, schools etc.

The Public is still put at attention that any person who had contact with a confirmed individual or travelled to affected and have developed flu like signs and symptoms should report to the nearest health facilities.

The country has so far confirmed 30 cases of Influenza type A H1N1 and the district has confirmed one case, no report of death has been reported. District epidemic disaster management committee meets every two weeks to assess the district level of preparedness and response. Currently there is enough supply necessary to address the diseases (protective gears, Tamiflu drugs,

Constraints:
1. Dwindling resources (Toner, Rims for surveillance forms, allowances to three staffs attached to block 8 clinic)
2. Staffs shortages
