NWDC' Supplies division donates to orphan families.

Following his Excellency the President’s plea, on the 13th of December the Supplies Division in the North West District Council donated four (4) water standpipes to four registered orphan families at Shashe and Thito ward respectively. The event took place at Shashe kgotla on the 13th December 2011 and it started at 0900hrs. This annual event is a noble initiative by Supplies Division staff who contributes 50 thebe daily to raise funds for the needy.

Mr. Vincent Kalaloka gave an overview of the project stating that the project started in 2007, inline with vision 2016 pillar: A Compassionate, Just and Caring nation. He asserted that the aim of this initiative is to improve the living standard of orphans thus alleviating poverty. He noted that they started by donating clothes and later decided to come up with something different and yet significant and not similar to Council services to orphans thus the birth of water standpipe connections. Mr. Kalaloka mentioned that in 2010, they donated standpipes to orphans at Boseja-kubung ward.

The Committee leader Mr. Gaokaelwe Mpho commended the supplies officers for their effort and commitment as they worked very well as a team with every staff member participating. Giving his part the Council Chairman Hon. Tebogo C. Bethia appreciated the good work which is done by the supplies division to help the disadvantaged community. He encouraged each individual to learn from this initiative and put it in practice, citing that a thousand miles begins with one step.
