DESCRIPTION OF THE SERVICE

The Environmental Health Division is mandated to constant monitoring and surveillance of environmental determinants which could have adverse effects on human health through its inspectorate section. The surveillance is conducted through the implementation and enforcements of the following statutes Public Health Act, Waste Management, Food Control Act and its regulations and Smoking Control Act.

Inspections of establishments/ premises may be done for the following reasons;

  • Issuance of Trading Licenses
  • Food and water quality monitoring
  • Occupational health and safety
  • School health
  • Nuisance abatement
  • Sanitation and housing
  • Tobacco control

NB: Inspections for businesses are conducted within two days of booking.

  • Nuisance Abatement inspections are done within 24 hours of reporting.

HOW DO I OBTAIN THE SERVICE?

  • For issuance of Trade Licenses contact Commercial Affairs Office at 5885670 or come physically to office no. 133 Civic Centre for booking
  • Others contact Environmental Health at 5880303 or come physically to the sanitation depot or offices no.209/10 Civic Centre for booking.

Inspections for Trade License applications are conducted on a “first come first serve basis”.
