According to the District Officer Development (DOD), Mr Boysie Mangole, Poverty Eradication Projects in the districts are going well apart from the problem of operational space for beneficiaries. He said that four departments in the district run the Poverty Eradication in the district namely the Forestry, Agriculture, Gender and the Social and Community Development Department and they regularly meet to map the way forward in order to achieve their mandate.

He further said that currently funds which were disbursed for backlog are being utilized by Agriculture and Gender as the Social and Community Department has no backlog of Poverty Eradication in the period specified. In Economic Empowerment projects, Mr Mangole said that the number of people that apply is very high and the only challenge that is there is that most of the applicants who are mostly the Youth, they do not know their projects hence the low numbers of beneficiaries in programmes such as Youth Development Fund (YDF).

Mr Mangole said that Francistown has merger projects like the Interchange road, Gerald Junior School, bulk servicing of Gerald block 1 and the link road between Gerald and Kgaphamadi. He indicated that the interchange and the Gerald Junior School are behind schedule.

The DOD indicated that the city will benefit from Economic Stimulus Programme as blocks of classrooms, toilets and teachers quarters will be built in Francistown
