General description:

Central District Council is charged with the provision of infrastructure and social services to the Central District Community. It is in line with its quest for excellence in service delivery that talented and qualified professionals are invited to apply for the following positions;

Purpose of the job
To ensure the efficient operation of all Council workshops which service and repair vehicles plant and equipment attached to its locality.

Job description:

Core areas responsibilities

  • Supervises and directs the work of the Principal Engineer II/ Mechanical Superintendents to monitor all Council workshops activities. Consult with immediate subordinates to maintain adequate output rate and work standard in all Council workshops.
  • Undertakes or delegates specific technological research for innovation and implementation of technological change of the motor industry. Discuss with the appropriate officers/ user departments for effective and economic ways of transport provision to the entire Local Authority.
  • Coordinates and controls the activities of different functional divisions of the Department. Introduces the necessary change of the motor through analysis of the various workshop operations regular reports such as vehicles off the road statistics, wear and tear patterns, fuel consumption and expenditure patterns.
  • Participates in review of organization structure of the Department and consult the appropriate institutions such as DLGSM to update documents such as the scheme of service and justify the existence of the various posts. Deploys the available resources to meet the objectives of the department efficiently.
  • Advises the Chief Mechanical Engineer or Permanent Secretary on the purchase and maintenance policy of vehicle, spare parts and tools/equipment.
  • Decides upon the deployment of staff and advises subordinates in the proper performance of their duties.
  • Participates in planning for the supply of adequate levers of skills personnel by discussing in house training requirements and proposed programmes with the Principal Mechanical Engineer II (Procurement, Development and Training)
  • Devises and implements modern workshop repair and servicing systems and practices within established regulations governing the operation Department.
  • Undertakes any other related duties as required to meet the exigencies of the service.

Job requirements:

Position requirements

A candidate must be in possession of a degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university plus 2 years experience as Principal Mechanical Engineer at D3 scale or equivalent.
