Entrepreneurship Policy on cards

The launch of a project for the development of a National Entrepreneurship Policy and Implementation Strategy on 18th January 2010 marked the begining of a collaborative effort by the Ministry of Trade & Industry, Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) and the Commonwealth Secretariat, to promote and sustain best practices in the Small, Medium and Micro-Enterprises (SMME) sector.

CEO of LEA, Dr Tebogo Matome said, "The official launch of the project marks a significant milestone in the trajectory of the development of the SMME sector in Botswana."

Acting Trade and Industry Minister, Mrs Dorcas Makgato-Malesu stated that "The need to infuse high impact, forward looking programme initiatives remains a continuing challenge and critical policy imperative." She underscored that the development of the policy would add to the realisation of sustained economic growth and diversification.

According to the Commonwealth Secretariat representative, Dr Timothy Williams, a draft policy would be availed to the public for their input before it is finalised.

The development of the new policy is expected to be completed by June. As a way to ensuring that all stakeholders are brought on board, there will be three workshops, two of which will be held in Maun and Francistown.
