Notwane seek first victory13 November, 2009 | |
MOLEPOLOLE - As the be Mobile premier league enters week eight, stakes for the league championship and survival continue to intensify.
Bottom of the log, Notwane will take a long journey to Orapa in search of their first league victory against Boteti Young Fighters on Saturday. After six matches, former champions continue to crave for a win and are expected to stage a formidable fight against the gladiators of Boteti who themselves enjoyed mixed fortunes so far. Boteti enter the bout bleeding following a 6-2 drubbing by champions, Gaborone United last week in Molepolole. Kenneth Mogaes side will be fighting to restore their shattered pride, a situation that guarantees an epic battle. Boteti have the poorest defensive record in the league. Last season they were humiliated 12-2 by Mochudi Centre Chiefs. However, the Notwane should be warned not to expect an easy fixture. Toronto defence should be prepared to thwart the hosts led by Cosmos Sebona. In an interview, Moran Nthoiwa, Toronto coach stated that the morale in his camp was high. He said he had identified the opponents weaknesses and strengths to counter them after watching them play against GU. Notwane coach added that the priority during training was entirely on sharpening their finishing as the side has a problem of converting. He said they could have won their game against Motlakase but were unable to finish clear chances that came by. However, he was not in position to state whether first choice goalie Botlhe Moralo has fully recovered . Another player unlikely to play would be Zambian striker, Michael Bwalya who received a knock recently. In their previous league clash, Mogaes side beat Notwane 4-1 in Molepolole. At press time, the Boteti coach was unavailable for an interview. In other interesting fixtures for the weekend, champions, Gaborone United take on Nico United in Selebi Phikwe on Saturday. Nico who are on the second spot with 15 points have turned Selebi Phikwe Stadium into a fortress. The visitors should therefore expect a fierce battle. Majombolo however are not enjoying their travels. They lost twice in their away missions against Mochudi Centre Chiefs in Molepolole and against Tafic in Francistown last week. Still on Saturday BDF XI, would try their league strength against Killer Giants in Lobatse. Molepolole Sports Complex would also be a battle ground for the titans as Chiefs hosts Francistown giants, Tafic. Magosi were held to a two all draw by the Francistowners in the same venue. Chiefs beat Santos 3-2 last weekend while Tafic dented Nicos tittle challenge with a 1-0 win. On Sunday, Daniel Nares Extension Gunners confront their hoodoo side, Uniao Flamengo Santos in Molepolole. Santos striker, Mogakolodi Ngele is enjoying a fine form having scored six goals for so far in the campaign. He will be looking to close the gap between him and the leading goal scorer, Terrence Mandaza of Township Rollers. Gunners Bernard Simakwenzi is also on the chase with five goals. It will be a battle of David and Goliath in Selebi Phikwe as Bennedict Bayanis side Motlakase faces Ecco City Greens. Motlakase hope to cement their league stay after staging an upset against champions GU by beating them 4-1 a fortnight ago. Their luck continued to trickle last weekend as they managed a 1-all draw with Notwane and expects good things to go their way again. Tonight, the countrys most succesful football team, Rollers are expected to make their intensions clear whem they engage struggling BMC at the Univeristy of Botswana Stadium. At present Mapalastina are at the summit with 18 points. All games starts at 330 pm. BOPA |
