BFA website update lags behind

13 November, 2009
MOLEPOLOLE - Botswana Football Association (BFA) website, which is supposed to keep sports writers and soccer lovers with updated information, has been going for weeks without update. The site, which is supposed to give latest news updates of the two leagues; be Mobile and first division had stale news and cannot be relied on for the latest of amongst others: list of top goal scorers, log standings and weekend results.

When BOPA browsed www.bfa.co.bw site on November 9, it contained stale information as it was last updated on October 21.

It showed that four games were played while infact seven games had been played as of November 09. In this era of information technology, it impacts negatively on the efforts to take the countrys soccer to the next level. In an interview, BFA public relations officer, Phakami Kraai said lack of capacity and an IT officer contributed to the failure to update the website. He revealed that the association was planning to outsource the maintenance of the website. Kraai further said they were to undergo IT training this week.

Kesentse Ketumile, BOPA sportswriter based in Maun expressed disappointment with the development.

He said BFA website needs to compliment newspapers and radio and urged that the association should be prepared to give Batswana updates about matches played through internet.

He said the South African PSL and kickoff sites are able to give live updates and BFA should be prepared to follow suit.

Mr Ketumile said that alone would be an advertising and marketing strategy and would create employment to a lot of people.Otherwise, he said, most people get results by phoning one another during matches.

Another sportswriter, Mr Duncan Kgankenna, said as a writer he was supposed to rely on the site to get the latest about the countrys soccer.

He said it was a disgrace that the association takes long to update the site. The updating should be consistent such that it does not give false information, more so that it is visited by international browsers.

He said it is easy to update the log and list of top goal scorers and fixture because it is only a matter of adding numbers. BOPA
