Khama attends earth forum
05 November, 2008

GABORONE - President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama left for Seattle, United States, yesterday, to attend the annual board of directors meeting of Conservation International.

The body is a non-profit organisation headquartered in Washington DC.

It seeks to protect the earth's biodiversity "hot spots,' high-biodiversity wilderness areas as well as important marine regions around the globe.

The group is known for its partnerships with local non-governmental organisations and indigenous peoples.

Its work occurs in more than 45 countries, primarily developing nations in Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Central and South American rain forests.

Conservation International's mission is to conserve the earth's living natural heritage, global bio-diversity, and to demonstrate that human societies are able to live harmoniously with nature.

At present, Conservation International is actively seeking a United Nations General Assembly moratorium on high seas bottom trawling through their participation on the steering group of the deep sea conservation coalition.

President Khama is expected back home on November 11.

Other prominent members of the board of Conservation International include such names as Dremworks president, Lewis Coleman, Intel co-founder, Gordon More, actor, Harrison Ford, Queen Noor of Jordan, former Starbucks CEO, Orin Smith and Rob Walton of Wal-Mart. BOPA
