Boston invites Mogae for study
19 February, 2007

GABORONE - President Festus Mogae has been invited to participate in the prestigious Boston University African Leaders State of Africa Report 2006.

The report features the visions and strategies of heads of state. The African Presidential Archives and Research Centre at Boston University is a resource for fostering efforts at free-market reform and democratisation in Africa.

A repository for the papers of former and current African leaders, it offers a residency programme for former democratically elected heads of states and hosts an annual African Presidential Roundtable in April.

The African Leaders State of Africa Report is one of APARCs core projects and provides selected Africa Leaders a forum to address the world about the goals, programmes and policies of their respective countries, This is the fifth anniversary edition of the African Leaders State of Africa Report Other leaders invited are those of Mauritius, South Africa, Tanzania and Cape Verde.

President Mogaes appointment is because of the consistency of the high rankings that Botswana has been awarded by credible and international acclaimed institutions such as Transparency International, World Economic Forum, Heritage Foundation, and the World Bank, which have confirmed Botswanas credentials as a democratic country.

The Director of the African Presidential Archives and Research Centre (APARC), Mr Charles Stith, told journalists at a reception at the residence of the American Ambassador that this year other participating countries include Benin, Cape Verde, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal and Zambia.

Mr Stith will hold strategic meetings with the current and former heads of states, government leaders, heads of major private, public and non-governmental organisations.

With stops in London, Madrid, Benin, South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania and Kenya, Mr Stith hopes to increase awareness concerning successful democratic and economic growth and development initiatives on the continent. BOPA
