| Botswana chairs African gaming body 04 May, 2006 | |
GABORONE - Chairperson of the Casino Control Board of Botswana Lekwalo Mosienyane has been appointed chairperson of the Gaming Regulators African Forum. A press release from the Ministry of Trade and Industry says Gaming Regulators African Forum aims to promote grounds for sharing of practical experience on matters pertaining to regulations of the gaming industries across Africa. The Gaming Regulators African Forum is also a consultative forum where various matters of common interest in the gaming industry are presented and discussed by the members. The ministrys statement adds that the forum is intended to provide technical assistance among members and constructively engage its gaming jurisdictions in gaming and related matters. Membership of the forum is open to national gaming regulators on the continent. Currently Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe Swaziland, South Africa and Botswana have signed the memorandum of understanding and are full-fledged members of the forum. Some of the forums objectives are to provide a platform at which members meet to exchange views and information; to discuss policy on gaming matters; to liaise with any foreign or international body having any objective similar to the objectives; and to serve as a focal point for enquiries by authorities and international bodies. Other objectives are to keep gaming free from criminal activity, to cooperate on probity and sharing of information, to protect the consumers and maintain fairness or equity of the games, to promote harmonisation and mutual recognition of standards and to contribute towards the enhancement of economic development.
